Monkeys and Shakespeare

written by: Philos-O-Tron

Q: If 1000 monkeys typed for 1000 years on 1000 typewriters, would Shakespere (sic) be forgotten?

A: There is an interesting piece of obfuscation in this question. The number of monkeys and typewriters, in fact, their inclusion in the question at all, has nothing to do with the memory of The Bard. The first part of the question assumes a relationship between the actions of a party to a memory unconnected with that action. It would be as cogent to ask if one million shrimp swam one million miles in one million days would Jacques Cousteau be forgotten. Cleary the migration of aquatic creatures will not erase the recordings of that noted sea explorer. The same is true for this bizarre monkey typing marathon in relation to the memory and works of the creator of families Capulet and Montague, so the answer is a definite “No”. Time may damage the human consciousness of his greatness, but not monkeys with keyboards.
